At Red Square Medical we LOVE training! All of our instructors work or have spent time offshore, and they’re also medical professionals. So, between us, there isn’t much that we haven’t seen or dealt with.
Our onboard training packages are incredibly popular because WE come to YOU! That’s right. We bring the training right to your vessel so there’s no need to find the time to get to a training centre and manage the associated logistics.
We support your training needs and evaluate responses to provide specific advice and guidance on ways for the crew to improve and refine their emergency response capability. We also find out what kit you have (as it’s probably some time since you last needed to even open the bag!) and we’ll bring the training version so that you can practice using the exact kit you have available.
This gives your entire crew the chance to refresh their knowledge and top up their practical skills with the massive benefit of being able to do it with their own kit, in their own environment and reacting to situations they may find themselves in for real. You can really build the team up to react to onboard emergencies, confident that they are responding in the most effective and efficient way.
Compared to the traditional classroom environment, where you will be mixed in with seafarers from different industry sectors and receive a generic STCW course, it means your crew train independently. Bringing the training onboard allows us to ramp up the experience by identifying your high risk areas and high risk guests, so you can train to react to those situations.
We base our ‘worst case’ scenario’s around you and your vessel and give you the solutions you need to manage a medical incident at sea. It also means your crew train as a team, which is exactly how they’ll need to function in an emergency.
Scenarios can include anything you want. Cardiac Arrest, major trauma, minor injuries, low blood sugar, heart attacks, mooring deck accidents, tender garage incidents, falls from height, crush injuries… the list goes on! We normally liaises with you prior to the course to see what your main objectives are and then build the training program around those objectives. We’re also very fluid and can adapt the program once we get onboard to cater for crew ability and accommodate any specific requests that come up.
We love to understand the training requirements of the vessel and being able to develop a rapport with the crew. Especially seeing the team develop, perfect their responses and realise just how far they’ve come in a short time.
We also LOVE kit! So if there is anything in your kit that you’re not confident with, we’ll use it until you can do it in your sleep.
Bringing your medical training onboard is an opportunity to build crew competence cost effectively. Plus, training in a real working environment reinforces learning and helps to build a healthy culture with the focus on safety in your workplace.
Our aim is to deliver solutions-based training that meets your needs and exceeds your expectations. Our clients really appreciate our ability to dig down into their unique challenges and help them focus on planning for them. Being able to have an in depth understanding of their own kit means they develop a new confidence in their response capabilities.
We have three training plans available and can recommend the ideal option for you and your vessel. You can find out more using
